Artists
Each artist asks big questions. Each one may spend up to two years creating new work. Art is about questions and process. Business is about answers and results. Which is based on universal truths? Which stands the test of time?
500 Clown is a Chicago-based touring theater company that believes that life is worth the risk.
No one creates instant community better than 500 Clown. No one makes their audience central to the storytelling better than 500 Clown. No one takes personal and professional risks, and profits more from doing so, better than 500 Clown.

Liz Lerman Dance Exchange is a professional company of dancers (in the Baltimore/DC area) that creates groundbreaking new work by a cross-generational company.
In each encounter Liz Lerman Dance Exchange asks four questions:
Who gets to dance?
Where is the dance happening?
What is it about?
Why does it matter?

Naoko Maeshiba is a dancer/choreographer/director in the Baltimore/DC area. Her interdisciplinary performances examine the intersection of movement, voice, music, object, and video images in an attempt to discover a new form of perception.
Her art is difficult to explain, because her process works to undefine the very thing she is creating. She is suspicious of “understanding”…because once you think you understand it, you’ve already defined it and left it behind. Naoko wants people to keep questioning and searching.

The Maryland Humanities Council (MDHC) promotes humanities programming throughout Maryland, encouraging dialog that explores human values, strengthens community, and connects people to the wider world.
Like the artists I like, the MDHC is in the exploration business helping people discover what makes us human, connect with others and discover meaning.
